Blog Income Report – May 2008

June 1st, 2008 Derek

Bar Graph with PeopleHey guys, I know not another Blog Income Report right? Well actually you’re wrong! This Blog Income Report will show you how much this blog has made, however, I’m actually going to tell you everything I did to get it to what it did.

This is by no means a bragging report as you’ll see when you see the blogs numbers! LOL Anyways, as I said, it will be worth reading this one as I’ll be explaining exactly what I’m doing to build this blog up and not just how much it made!

Let’s get started!

Getting Started:

This blog has been up for over a year, however, I’ve only actually been giving it a go recently. I’ve started posting at least every other day pretty much since late late April or early early May, can’t quite remember! Anyways, as I said, I’ve been trying to average a post out once every other day or 4 times a week is my true goal! I’ve kept up with doing that pretty well actually which is surprising me, because I’ve never really been into blogging. The reason I even started was because I had several people ask me to!

Anyways, so while it’s been up for a little over a year, when I started getting serious about it, I had I think 11 RSS subscribers! :P and hardly about 5 unique visitors a day! So what you’ll hear in this report is in only a month of blogging!

Current Numbers of Click Consultants:

  • 361 RSS Subscribers
  • 10,540 Unique Visitors
  • 32,369 Pageviews

Last Month’s Numbers:

  • 13 RSS Subscribers
  • 2,460 Unique Visitors
  • 12,321 Pageviews

Income Earned In May 2008:

  • Private Ad Sales 125×125: $30
  • Affiliate Commissions: $4.25

Expenses In May 2008:

  • Paid Reviews: $170

How did I do it?

As you can see I actually lost more money this month than I earned…However, that was actually my goal. I was going to order about another 10 reviews, but I decided to build up this blog as if I was working a full time 9-5 job and could only afford so much advertising per month. I decided I would try to stay under $200 dollars per month in the first couple months as I believe most of you out there could afford ~200 dollars a month for advertising to get started.

I ordered 3 different reviews, one of them was actually free, won in a contest. Here are the stats from the paid reviews and a brief description of what I thought of each review.

NOTE: The stats are from 3 days of the review being up, all the blogs continue sending visitors slowly over the course of the next couple weeks, however, the majority came in after the first 3 days so I only monitored them from there.

Mixed Market Arts:

The first one I did was with Mixed Market Arts and this was the one that I got for free from a contest I had won. Here are the stats from the site.

  • 31 Unique Visitors
  • 1.77 Pages/Visitor
  • 2:25 Avg Time on My Site
  • 77.42% Bounce Rate

Overall, I actually liked the review. I think he did a good job at reviewing and critiquing the blog. He mentioned several things he didn’t like about the blog and several things he did. Overall, I would say he did an avg job on the review and did about what I expected. I was, however, a little disappointed on the amount of visitors he sent to my blog.

Jonathan Volk:

The next blog I order a review from was Jonathan Volk’s blog, which like this blog, is an affiliate marketing blog. The cost for this review was $50.

  • 1,105 Unique Visitors
  • 4.02 Pages/Visitor
  • 5:15 Avg Time on My Site
  • 48.96% Bounce Rate

I was really surprised with how many visitors Jonathan’s blog sent me. The review wasn’t very detailed, it was short and to the point, however, this seemed to do really well on Jonathan’s site, so I can’t complain really!

Tyler Cruz:

The last blog I ordered a paid review from this month was Tyler’s Blog. I believe the price I paid for this review was $120 bucks.

  • 158 Unique Visitors
  • 3.46 Pages/Visitor
  • 3:00 Avg Time on My Site
  • 52.53% Bounce Rate

I was completely shocked with the low amount of visitors I received from Tyler’s blog! However, one thing I really appreciated from Tyler was his very very through review of my blog. I’m not a blogger, I’m an affiliate marketer, so needless to say, I pretty much got this site up and running and started posting.

Tyler really gave me some great pointers, tips on some plugins, thing I should try, etc. Overall I was happy with the review because I believe it helped me realize a few things I needed to change so that I can continue to grow this blog correctly!

Conclusion:

Pretty much, for the month of May, I worked on making sure I was keeping on a steady posting track and ordering some paid reviews to get my blog’s name out there. I don’t have any problem at operating at a loss for the first couple of months as I know that the blog will continue to grow and eventually I’ll start breaking even and then making a profit. Another reason I’m not really concerned about it is because I’m not doing this blog to really make money so I’m not too concerned with it doing so, although I’m sure it eventually will.

For the month of June, I’m planning on ordering another 2 or 3 paid reviews and also hoping to order some banner ads this month. Again trying to keep the budget below 200 bucks per month during the beginning as I feel that most could afford to spend that much a month to get a site going during the beginning stages.

Wow, you’ve gotten a good amount of RSS subscribers over the last month.

A nice increase in uniques as well as page views. Seems like you are building up a name for yourself quite quickly.

I always look forward to reading your posts :)

Nice! Over 1,100 clicks :) I think that works out to something like: 0.045 cents per click… That’s pretty awesome.

Thanks guys, you’re right the site is growing pretty quickly, I truly believe this was because of the three paid reviews. This month I’m actually going to do something else with the 200 dollars instead of paid reviews. So, hopefully at the end of the month we’ll see if it works better than paid reviews or not.

Like I said, the only reason I’m posting these blog stats is so you guys can see exactly what I did/am doing to grow the blog with a budget of 200 bucks.

Quality posting every other day and those 3 paid reviews are seriously it! That was all I did really, at least the major chunk of it. So use it to learn how to build a successful blog hopefully!

It is good to see internet marketers who don’t give up on their blog even in times when they aren’t making money. I know that a lot of people will give up if their site doesn’t make $1000 the first month… the fact is that it takes time, money and hard work…. good to see you are keeping at it!

Am I reading it correctly, you had 13 subscribers last month and now 361. How you did it? You got very good number of unique users. How did you get that? We would like to hear your secrets.

No secrets, all the info is in the blog post. I did this by writing an article (quality article) every two days on average and by ordering three paid reviews from the sites listed.

Of course little things like EntreCard brought me a couple visitors but the majority came from the three paid reviews.
