Here is something I’m asked alot, and asked by alot of Affiliate Marketers. How do I get free traffic to my affiliate sites? Of course we all love the PPC world
and we all love how quickly it is to be able to throw up some ads, keywords, etc and start receiving traffic almost immediately. However, I personally believe that if your looking to have a long time business in affiliate marketing you need to start looking at sending other traffic to your site besides simply using pay per click.
So, there are tons of ways to do this, however, the subject I want to touch on today is using Video and sites like YouTube or similar sites. I’ve seen a number of increasing of sites built completely around video. For example, affiliate sites doing reviews of products and then having basically a summary of the video below the actual video with a link pointing to an affiliate url for the product. Also I’ve seen sites where after the video is played its clickable and will also take you to the product using an affiliate url. In fact, even Shawn Collins and Missy Ward have a project, not sure if they are still doing it and I can’t remember the url, where they are doing this.
I personally haven’t created any sites totally built around video and nothing more, but I have used Youtube to upload videos promoting stuff like Dating Sites of mine. I’ve also used videos simply projecting something that would spark interest with people sharing and simply placing the url at the end, I’ve also taken longer clips and put a mini commercial in the middle of the clip. Now of course just uploading a video to YouTube isn’t going to send you tons of traffic. You need a video that gets shared and shared and shared. You get the idea!
Also, I’ve been testing putting Video on my actual landing pages and have seen conversions double, sometimes even triple after doing so. YouTube is currently the 4th most trafficked site after Yahoo, MSN, then Google. People are watching video’s all the time and they we are only beginning to see the possibilities with being able to use Video for Affiliate Marketing, and now is the time to jump on the bandwagon so to say and see what video can do for your affiliate marketing campaigns!
Good luck and don’t forget to register to our feed to receive updates when we have a new post!

Video Post – Questions & Answers

Greetings all!
I don’t use videos in my affiliate marketing, and it seriously bothers me when marketers do it when trying to sell ME something!
It goes like: “Watch this 5 minutes video”, and when I do, I find that READING the stuff would have taken me 30 seconds or something like that.
I consider videos on sales pages a waste of time (the PROSPECTS time!), and I sure will not do it to my own clients. However, lots of marketers see this differently, and since most of them earn much more than I do, I guess there must be SOMETHING useful in the video concept.
But personally I found that watching a video takes about ten times as long as reading a text that explains the same.
Be well!

Hey Jaap, I have to disagree with you, now of course there are the exceptions to where people don’t do video correctly, however, if video is done correctly there are alot of ways it can increase conversions, I have the numbers to back that statement up too!!!
Secondly, not only did I say to use video on your actual landing page, but its a great way to increase traffic to your affiliate site. I have a youtube channel where I do video tips and tricks on a subject and have currently over 5,000 subscribers to that channel, which I can use to leverage to send traffic to my site.
Of course video doesn’t work on every landing page and with every niche, but it can increase your conversions if used properly. Give it a try, you may be surprised!
Hi Derek!
Yes, I’ll probably HAVE to give it a try (sad grin)… But I can’t for the life of me understand why people rather watch a 5 minutes video than read 30 seconds of text!
When a sales page, landing page or any other marketing page expects me to watch a video, I rarely do so. It simply doesn’t work for me, even stronger: any sales person that requires me to spend 5, 6 or 7 minutes on watching his message instead of the 40 or 50 seconds it would take me reading the same, irritates the heck out of me.
That’s my attitude towards buying: I haven’t bought anything through a video yet – simply becasuse I don’t watch the bloody things. However, as far as my attitude towards selling is concerned: I agree with you that I will soon HAVE to give in and put some videos on!
If the punters want to watch colored moving pictures… well… who am I to deny them the joy (grin)?!

What kind of videos do you recommend? Could you do a screen capture video that shows the vendor’s sales letter and talks about the benefits of the product? Or do you have to do a video of yourself talking?
Well obviously I’m not going to give one of my landing pages, but if you have been watching Next Internet Millionaire, Charles Trippy, has a sales page with a video in it, and I think it works quite effectively.

Hey Derek,
The site that you’re referring to above is our video product review site: http://www.weviews.tv
Take care,
Missy
That’s it!
Thanks Missy, I couldn’t remember the url of the site. So there you have it folks, a great example of video’s being used for affiliate marketing!
Could you provide a few more examples of good videos. We have a few people here in Houston that are starting to set up training videos, but they’re not doing a great job. Would appreciate some additional thoughts.
