Don’t Be a Stat Whore!

Alright, here’s a big problem with a lot of affiliates, and I can definitely connect with it. When you have campaigns running that are making money, we all want to check our stats every 30 minutes to see if we made any more leads or sales. For a lot of people (including myself), this can be a terrible thing. Because the thing about affiliate marketing is, it’s not always going to be good. Bad days happen, and really bad days happen. If you check your stats every 15 minutes in a bad hour of the day where you’re losing money, you’re going to be seeing a loss 4 times in 1 hour. It’s a terrible feeling to lose a lot of money, and hurts motivation a lot. I used to refresh my Azoogle account every hour to see if any new batches of leads came in, and a lot of times I’d get 50 clicks without a lead and would think “oh wtf this niche is dying”…and then I go out for a few hours, come back and see that I’m doing great.

Unless it’s a new campaign that you’re monitoring tightly, or testing a new technique, check your stats only once or twice a day.

If you have a campaign that you’re just making minor tweaks to, just check it at the end of the day and see how you did. If you’re starting a new campaign and sending high volume, or changing something that could affect CTR and conversions in a big way, then you can check it more often. But besides that, I only load up my accounts once or twice a day. Bad days don’t mean that the niche is dying and I need to try a new tactic, they’re just a part of life and affiliate marketing.
