I Have a Confession…

August 18th, 2009 Derek

20060717_142301Okay, so here it is, I’m horrible when it comes to taking vacations.  I’m not sure why I don’t take them more, I guess it’s just the simple fact that first off, I’m extremely cheap, and secondly since I work from home, it seems like a vacation all the time! :P   Kidding, in all honestly I’m really not sure why I don’t take a break once in a while more often…so I decided that I’m going to start to travel a bit more.

I mean what’s the point of working from home and being able to travel and work if you don’t travel…  So I’ve been looking at a couple places to go, most likely mid to end of September, just too swamped this month and the beginning of September (now you see why I don’t take vacations, I always have an excuse :P ) and I think I’ve figured out where I’m gonna head to when I go.

I’ve been looking at Savannah, GA  I drove through and stayed the night there once when I was down in Florida on my way back home and I really enjoyed it.  I love the beach but it seems that when I do go places it’s always someplace like Florida.  Also I’ve been looking at their website and they seem to have some pretty cool stuff, like for example ghost tours… OOOOOoooooooo!!!  :P

Anyways, so I’m wondering if anyone has vacationed there or live near there and can tell me if they think it would be a good spot to relax.  I’m not worried about them having a ton of stuff to do, as to be honest I’m wanting to relax more than anything and not do a bunch of crap!  However, I do want it to be nice.  I heard Tybee Island is a really nice beach and it’s about 20 minutes from Savannah…

Anyways, give me some advice guys!  Seems like a cool place, if you’ve been there, anything I should check out?

“since I work from home, it seems like a vacation all the time!” haha yea I can agree with that. I hear you on always having something to do ( or an excuse ). Although I have never been there, Savannah GA sounds like a great place to vacation. I love the ghost stories from there that they play on discovery channel. I am sure you will have a great time Derek, just make sure you do it, and don’t make more excuses ( like I always do anyhow ) :-) .

You should try to vacation at least 4 times a year and preferably, outside of the states :)

If I were you, I’d go somewhere out of the country. Some place where your cell phone doesn’t work and the nearest place with internet is the cafe the next town over. Disconnect for a bit, it feels good!

My buddies and I try to do a 2 week long surf trip atleast once a year. Our fav spot so far is Costa Rica.

Derek, I grew up near Savannah, GA and it’s both a beautiful place to live and visit. It’s one of the oldest cities in the US and has a lot of history if you’re interested in that sort of thing. There are tons of places to shop, great music, and many other attractions. Also, if you like seafood, there are some really good restaurants there. I highly recommend taking the trip if you are considering it.

I love seafood, one of the reasons I like going someplace right by the ocean, Red Lobster is great, but nothing like fresh seafood! :D

I’ve been doing a lot of research on Savannah and it seems to be a really good place to just relax! I’m thinking this is definitely where I’m gonna go!

I used to live in Savannah.

Spent some time at the riverfront. Watch the massive
freighter cruise along. Have a frozen drink.

There used to be a good Greek eatery on Tybee.
Stop off and see the old civil war fort on your way.

Have a good stay. Relax.

Yeah I heard it’s a nice place to watch at the docks…I may just have to watch some of the boats come in and out!

i think you should take vocation it makes the mind fresh. i am not like you as far as vocations are concerns. i love to take vocation but only if i have not too much work to do. Sometimes it does happen to me that i have lots of work and i really want to take holidays but due to work i cant o it. So at the whole i want to say we should take holidays when you can take it its better than sitting ideal without work. good luck.

Yeah I too rarely take vacations, Since I am young… 23 right now… and in college… the only vacations I’ve taken in my life time have been those away from my studies.. I guess that counts as a vacation right? lol. I’ve never been been to GA, but I do have a few friends who live in GA.

Till then,

Jean

Traveling more is a great idea. Your body & mind need the break from all the work and stress. Taking a break allows you to recharge and come back more motivated and energetic. Just don’t give in to the temptation of bringing your laptop along to do some work in the evenings. If you do that you aren’t truly on vacation.
