Simple Solutions to Simple Problems

July 27th, 2008 Derek

Sometimes in our lives the things that are holding us back are simple problems that we face.  In affiliate marketing this is no different.  The problem is a lot of blogs talk about big problems you may be facing in affiliate marketing, however, most blogs don’t think to talk about the small things that could be affecting your business.

Hopefully this blog post will address some of the little problems that most affiliate marketers face at one time or another and can hopefully shed some light on ways to fix the problem or at least lessen the stress!

Running out of Money?

When you first start becoming successful in affiliate marketing most people have the problem of running out of money!  It is extremely important to make sure that you have your credit fixed as well as you can and as fast as you can if you have problems.  I understand not everyone has perfect credit, but in this business you’ll soon find out that having good credit can help you out tremendously when you need cash and you’re just starting out!

Another way to making sure you have money when you get started is to use a coupon in order to receive free money/clicks.  Most pay per click networks like Adwords, YSM, or Adcenter offer free coupons with new accounts.  The great thing is, you can typically use a different credit card and have multiple accounts and use a coupon for each account you create!

The last choice you have is asking friends or family members to give you a loan.  I personally would only use this as a last resort as borrowing from friends or family is not something that is normally very wise when it comes to business.  However, if it’s just to get you started for a month or two, I don’t see a major problem with it!  Although becareful, I would hate to see someone ticked at you because you didn’t repay them back or they feel later on down the line that you screwed them when they realize how much money you’re making!

Finding a Solid Niche

New affiliates often have trouble deciding on the type of niche to get into and which one to pick.  However, this is often times way too thought out!  As a new affiliate I don’t recommend looking for that perfect niche that is going to have 0 competition but billions of searches done per month!  Instead, you need to just simply enter some of the niches that you know are already profitable niches.  Ones in which other affiliates are already making money in.  Just because sometimes saturated doesn’t mean you can’t make money in it!  I’m not saying you’ll be able to make tons, however, you should be able to at least get a profitable campaign going which will help you get your feet wet!

Too many new affiliates focus more on which niche they are going to try to conquer instead of actually focusing on building their landing pages, keyword lists, and writing their ads in order to ensure they’ll have an awesome campaign.  Worry more about site, keywords, and ads instead of which niche you are going to enter!

Time Management

Another problem affiliate marketers have is issues with getting things done, setting deadlines, etc.  This can typically end up starting as a small problem and growing into a massive problem!

Here are some steps you may wish to take in order to make sure you are completing things in a timely manner…

  1. Reward yourself for completing a certain project or goal.  Setting goals and rewarding yourself when you hit a goal is a great way to keep yourself motivated and on track!
  2. Try creating a schedule.  Write down a list of everything you need to get done and schedule it from what time you’ll start on it till what time you should be done with it…give yourself a little more time than you think it will take that way once you complete it early, you’ll feel proud of yourself.
  3. Start with easy tasks.  When creating your “to do list” you should try placing the easiest tasks at the top and the harder tasks at the bottom.  By doing so you’ll more likely finish the easy ones which will give you a boost of confidence to get the hard ones done.  Most people that start with the hardest tasks are not going to want to start at all!

These simple problems all have very simple solutions and ideas that can help you overcome them, however, most of the time these issues are overlooked!  I hope you’ll be able to conquer some of these problems and also please share in the comments if you have any more simple solutions for the problems above!

I think motivation is my biggest problem….

After launching my campaign and seeing less than desirable results my brain is saying… deal with it later but I know that it needs my attention now…

Thanks for the post, awesome as always.

Good stuff Derek, especially about the choosing and niche and not focusing on the system or supporting factors of a successful campaign.

Again, PPC and CPA are something I am new at so I’m soaking up this new knowledge bank like a sponge. I have heard about your forum from a few buddies, but never got fully involved in your site. Well, that’s changing as of now!

see ya
