What Happening With My Marriage?

May 22nd, 2009 Derek

Well, it’s been a while since I’ve given an update on how things are going with my Wife and me.  I’ve had several people ask me what’s going on, so I figured I’d do a quick post about what’s happening with it all.  So far, we are still married, we have started marriage counseling finally, however, after the first session, we got into a fight (my fault) a day or two later, and I messed it up.  Thus, right now we are meeting with the counselor separately.

For some reason, I thought that once we started the counseling that we had to get all of our problems fixed asap….I was dead wrong, by trying to push Joy to talk about all of our problems outside of counseling, I actually pushed her away and now she is back to wanting a divorce.

As I said, we are both meeting with the counselor still seperately for personal reasons that we each have that we need to work through…

I’m totally uncertain as to what’s gonna happen and to be honest it’s killing me!  All I know is that I have finally realized (hopefully not too late) that I love my wife more than anything else in this world and I would gladly do anything at this point to prove it to her and to get one more chance at saving our marriage.

So, if your religious, pray for me, if your not…pray for me anyways!  I’d appreciate it greatly and I’m trusting God to make a way where there seems to be no way!!!

PS: Thanks to everyone who has shown concern and have kept me in their thoughts and supported me through this.  I appreciate all of you as my readers and I hope to soon be able to post as regular as I was in the past once I get through all this!

I can relate to what you are going through, must be the toughest time for both emotionally. You know when a person is not with you anymore, you realize what you are missing. We can always have more love and acceptance, needs a lil bit of work though, just a change of perceptions. I feel bad when someone goes through pain of separation. Best wishes n God bless.

Derek, I wish you the best, and I will pray for you too. You have taken the correct approach. Give it some time & take it one step at a time. With a good counselor and the desire of the two of you to make it work again, you will succeed.

I realised my comment was a bit messed up…. I meant I would be thinking of you… so hope that makes a little more sense. By the way, your ferret is awesome. I have been getting to know some Ferrets over the past week…

Yes good luck with the counseling Derek. It sounds like you will be able to work these issues out. Now that you have realized that you love your wife more than anything else, you can work towards fighting to keep her. Make a point of showing her that you love her on a consistent basis. You also have to accept that with a marriage there is bound to be compromises. You just have to learn to be content even when the other person gets there way.

Well it seems like you guys are really committed to making things work out, this is a very good sign in your overall willingness to commit and be happy together. Rough patches in marriages are tough to get through emotionally and physically draining but if you are willing to try and get through it it’s a great sign of commitment.

Relationships are hard work and you need to constantly work on them for them to flourish or even survive. It is great that you are giving it a shot.
